So ended up doing a manual install of the mythtv-backend and then doing 
a config restore.
after that I upgraded to 0.25 to get everything current.

I'm finding another issue with the contrib scripts being missing and 
that seems to be my next problem. Are they included in a new package 
with 0.25?

Not in my closet :)  Just trying to reuse existing gear and I dont have 
anything else that has a standard PCI slot that I can use.  I have some 
1/2 height slots but that doesn't help.
