Stephen this is not aimed specifically at you (and I have no doubt that your intentions are kind)
What level of expertise is expected on the list?
Someone (I assume NOT naive) asks QUESTION. We tell him "you dont want to do that" but maybe he does!
I'd be interested in the real answer, I've been too busy/lazy to readup (actually I have, but I digress) on git, so I have built the release tar balls only.
So I trawl the archives to find out about git and get pounded with "Use your distro's version" and utter the rude word wosname!
