tail /var/log/mysql/error.log gives the following:

But this file has not been touched since June 3,2012. So not from my
latest mysql service start attempt.
tail /var/log/mysql/mysql.log gives the following

I am not even sure where the log message from mysql are going. I have
in /var/log/syslog
Oct 21 16:38:00 DVR kernel: [ 216.952263] init: mysql pre-start
process (2541) terminated with status 1
It looks like according to /etc/mysql/my.cnf
#
# Error logging goes to syslog due to /etc/mysql/conf.d/mysqld_safe_syslog.cnf.
