Just saying that popup (or, more precisely, the code handling the 
conditions that cause that popup to appear) hasn't worked properly in 
many, many release versions and has caused failures of one thing or 
another related to the recording in various ways (including the way 
you've described) for some people on some systems.  That the race 
condition occurs, now, on your system and didn't before only indicates 
that timing has changed for you (likely due to other unrelated changes), 
and it may well be more common on more systems, now.
