Well, I think his point was that they are NOT separate video files on
the bluray. The director's cut just has a few extra clips spliced into
the middle, so it doesn't duplicate all of the common scenes, and thus
doesn't take anywhere near twice the space. Of course, that sort of
playback mechanism isn't possible from MKV files, so yeah, it's going
to take twice the space. I've always wondered though, since MKV is a
very general container and can even contain multiple video file, why
this sort of playback mechanism has never been added to the spec.
