I'm trying out the HLS streaming in .25 from the backend website API
example on my iPad (3rd gen). I can stream successfully, however the
quality is awful. Very pixallated.

These are the stream settings.. 720p at 3000k :

the resulting stream looks like this:

I have Plex media server running on the same system (a Intel Core2 Quad
Q9450 @ 2.66GHz) and picking the 3Mbps, 720p stream setting the picture
quality is much much better:

So I know the backend can keep up, and I can stream a good looking picture.

I tested the stream in VLC on my backend via the files in the tmp/hls
directory and they show they are 720x1280. and the livestream table
reflects the settings I made.

My backend is running Ubuntu Lucid 10.04, and I'm up to date with the
mythbuntu 0.25 fixes packages
(2:0.25.0+fixes.20120511.9ccfac1-0ubuntu0mythbuntu1)

Here's the mediainfo output for the myth generated ts file:

and here't eh mediainfo output for the plex generated ts file:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2386241/media-info-plex_hls_ts.txt

The bit rates are the main difference: the Myth stream has an overall
bitrate of 912 kbps vs 5866 kbps with plex.

Is there anything I can do to bring the myth stream's quality up to be
closer to the plex quality?

thanks!
