Just to be clear - this was *never* considered a bug in the firmware.
The change to the way the color controls worked was intentional and
requires a driver update (both on Windows and Linux).  That said, you
should not expect to see it magically revert back to the old behavior
in subsequent upgrades such as this one.

The change required to the driver was submitted to the linux-media
group back in October (and was finally merged in February and is
slated for inclusion in kernel 3.4).  Why did it take four months for
the patch to get merged?  Is it really acceptable for a fix created in
October to finally get into a kernel released six months later?  And
then followed by eventually waiting for distros to go to the new
kernel (all the while leaving users with that firmware are left with
broken hardware)?  That's really a question that should be posed to
LKML since it seems to be an area that could definitely use some
improvement (the Linux development model does have ways in which it
works really well - this happens to be one where it tends to suck).
