I can also confirm it is program not time related.  I have the same issue 
since upgrading to mythbuntu 0.25 builds.  I can watch a 3 hour sports event
and not have an issue, but changing live tv channels or when one program ends
and the next begins is a crap shoot.  Sometimes if just pauses, others it
pauses then fails back to the menu.
