I can't say what was wrong with your system, but I have
an Asus GT430 working pretty well.  I'm using Mageia 1
with the Nouveau driver and plain-old X (no Gnome, KDE,
or compviz).  The driver doesn't do acceleration, so
the software does use a lot of CPU (mythfrontend and X
combined use 1.0-1.15 threads of a W3680).  There is
some tearing of the image, but it drives a 1920x1200
monitor with no detectable lag or slowness.
