If using unity...I find that there are 3 things that need to be adjusted 
to allow to work with Mythtv. You will need to load Advanced Desktop 
Effects Settings or ccsm via the sofware center.
A. Remove top panel - Utility>Workarounds>Check Legacy Fullscreen Support.
B. F10 Volume -- Desktop>Ubuntu Unity Plugin>Behavior>key to open the 
first     panel - change key selection
C. Alt F7 Tuner signal strength -- Windows Management>Move 
Window>General>Initiate Window Move - change key selection
