After some investigation I've found that the recordings that don't
playback sound are the ones that say they are multi-channel sound (ITV1
HD), stereo is ok. No amount of changing the audio setup makes any
difference. I've also found that playing live TV, BBC HD, which has
multi-channel sound, has sound both and when played back from the
recording. I'll record another ITV1 HD movie and see what the result is.
Given that this problem so far has shown up on commercial TV, I wonder
if it's something to do with advert detection? I've also tried playing
back the recordings directly via VLC and they just freeze around the
point the sound goes. Problems is I don't think advert detection nor
transcoding jobs are enabled. Mystified!
