Personally, I use monitors in three locations and a plasma TV in the 
living room. Given that Myth can change the volume using its internal 
settings, I don't see any need for remotes for the monitors. I just 
leave the monitors' volume set a reasonable level.

I also have LIRC set up with irexec on the mackend, to wake up the 
computers attached to the monitors. Waking a computer wakes its monitor 
automatically.

In the case of a sleep timer, Myth already has its own timer built-in. 
I'm not sure if it can be configured to put the computer to sleep, 
though, as I don't use it.
