The code needed to maintain this kind of thing just isn't worth maintaining
for the trivially small number of users who would use it, and those who use
it would do so exceedingly rarely.

Remember, code doesn't need to just be written, someone needs to be willing
to keep it working, and it seems to me that the functionality isn't worth
the maintenance.  There's just not enough upside.
