     Then another "media hub" in the immediate area is a bad idea.

     If that's not a problem, just have the same kind of setup in the 
kitchen that you would in the family room. 

     Things in the kitchen don't tend to mix well with electronics. 
Better to not be grabbing the expensive electronics with who knows
what on your hands. Ruin that cheap remote if you're going to ruin
anything.

      Input devices that aren't "built in" are handy that way.
