No, I don't access the device with anything else (I don't know what
QuickTV or PID are). The logs are at the bottom of this email if
you're curious, but I don't think this is related to my transcoding
issues...

What I'm looking for is a way to keep these videos in "Watch
Recordings" (not "Watch Videos"), but have them be smaller. I don't
care about formats as much. (I might also explore ways to transcode
for archiving outside mythtv, but one project at a time.) Isn't that
what the built-in transcoder should be doing? Is there another way to
accomplish this goal? I don't think lossless transcoding to delete
commercials and other downtime will meet my needs, because I want to
do this quickly without taking the time to create a cutlist.

What ffmpeg options would you suggest I use for this test?

Not that long; maybe 14 months? Since 0.23.

Thanks,
Josh
