Answering my own question. 

2) Chroot environment - is not going to work. 
	a) It will not fix my problem with kernel modules crashing
	b) unless something funky is down with hostnames, myth is not going
to like it,

1) Separated machines, it is going to be difficult to get a cheap low-power
machine I think that can do the SQL justice

So it looks like it is going to be a beefy Xen server setup. Although this
might also suffer from hardware issues.
