Once one eliminated the locked/protected channels (mostly the premium
HD channels like National Geographic, Discovery HD, The Score HD) from
MythTV, I used a daisy chained Motorola DCT-6200 and DCT-6416 very
successfully with Shaw cable (Vancouver) for 3 years from 2008 to
2011.  Had no zero-length or failed recordings over firewire capture
after the initial set-up period.

Unfortunately, I had to leave Shaw for other reasons (pricing).  But
the firewire-based capture never failed me.  It's too bad some of
their newer hardware doesn't have firewire ports anymore.
