File browse mode means you bypass the database, and rescan the 
filesystem contents each time you enter the video library.  It also 
comes with the consequence that metadata metadata does not work 
properly, and scanning is a potentially bad thing to do.  You can 
enable/disable file browse mode through the 'm' menu while in the video 
library.
