You did not mention your provider, nor your particular box,
so this answer is generic.

On other forums (satellite provider forums), there are
numerous reports of satellite boxes turning themselves
off (often it is going to standby, and not actually turning
off) after inactivity or for their daily reboot (apparently
some of the boxes require a daily reboot?). Sometimes
it is environmental (the box gets too hot, and power
off).

On some boxes, you can apparently configure the
standby inactivity times or disable it entirely.

On some boxes you can send a command that
simply makes the box think there is someone
in front of the TV to avoid the standby. I seem
to recall someone on this list (check the
archives?) wanting to send a key (once an hour
or so) to keep their box from going to sleep.

But in any case, it is often best to check forums
for your particular provider (and your particular STB)
for assistance, since there seems to be no
consistent approach by the satellite providers.
