[mythtv-users] request to backport - Ticket #10428

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is more appropriate for -users or -dev, but I
figured other users might be interested.
I believe the underlying issue with Ticket #10428 (mythbackend logs
RingBuf-messages every few seconds while playing LiveTV) is a bit more
serious than the ticket describes and I'm wondering if this fix can be
backported to the 0.25-fixes branch?

I'm currently running Mythbuntu 12.04 with the latest 0.25-fixes
packages and I have been seeing RingBuf and PrebufferEnoughFrames error
messages in the mythfrontend.log followed by a playback failure with
"Video Buffering Failed too many times". I have found this mostly
happens when my backend is under load (EG recording 2 HD streams on
backend, while watching them separately on two remote frontends). When
only playing back one LiveTV stream, it seems to work fairly well. I
have also had this happen when running ffmpeg on the backend while
trying to watch a live HD stream on the frontend.

I took the fix related to this ticket and applied it to the most recent
0.25-fixes branch, then built mythtv, then just replaced my libmythtv.so
files on the remote frontends. This seems to have resolved the issue.
If I'm reading it right, the frontends were prebuffering 1/1000th of the
data they were supposed to, so I'm guessing whenever the buffering was
really needed, it was not there.

Let me know if you need any further information.

PS Should this have gone to mythtv-dev?
