Is -v without any arguments valid? I would need to specify what messages to
see?

Since everything was working on a new fresh install of Mythbuntu 12.04 i
don't think that there is any configuration of the system missing. But i
could be wrong. It stopped working when i compiled from source and
installed. Thinking i am missing a dependency? Or a configuration option?
