I do not know about *need*, but if have a group of people all
trying to do real-time streaming/transcoding to their portable
media devices, one can certainly imagine needing something
more powerful than a low end cpu until/unless one can move
all that transcoding to your private GPU farm BE (perhaps
the same one that will do commercial detection).  As with
much else, it all depends.
