I had a similar issue and had to install the libcec software from
http://libcec.pulse-eight.com to fix it. Just to note, I do not have a
cec adapter, but after filing a report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/1000771 I thought I would
give it a whirl to see if it would fix it, and it did.

After I installed libcec, mythfrontend quit crashing...
