I had a bit of a step forward last night. After reinstalling mesa
(opengl implementation) - the stutter disappeared.
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx
sudo ldconfig
I was reading this thread
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2004577 which linked to
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11600468&postcount=2 which
suggested the reinstall.
Really good news, maybe if you're on Ubuntu 12.04 and you've had
problems you can try reinstalling mesa.
For me on Ubuntu 12.04/Clarkdale I have had success with the following
environment
a) using Xorg updates ppa -
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/
b) Reinstalled vaapi as per instructions - http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/VAAPI
c) Mythtv .25/fixes (I use mythubuntu repositories, haven't got time to
recompile any more)
d) Reinstalled mesa (as above)
As has been mentioned, make sure appearance is set to opengl in myfrontend.
As I am using i3/i5 Clarkdale I think h/w deinterlacing does not work
those with sandy and ivy should be fine.
Interesting to see how this works out with 0.26 given there have been a
few VAAPI changes - http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Release_Notes_-_0.26
