Actually every apple remote has 256 different IDs it can send from (not 10). You select the next ID by holding down MENU and PLAY/PAUSE for about 5 seconds. You could if you had the time (and unending patience) get 1536 unique buttons from the old remote, or 1792 via the new one. 8)
