I quickly cobbled together some bits and pieces and created a myth
plugin for 0.25 that acts as an interface for the squeezeslave client.
You can see a short video here: http://youtu.be/--x2amE0Qzk, and you
can get the source here: https://github.com/ggalt/mythsqueeze. You
will need to compile and install in your path the squeezeslave client
(http://code.google.com/p/squeezeslave/). One quick note, YouTube
seems to have converted the color of the text on the display to a
lovely orange. It's actually cyan, but YouTube likes to mess with
colors. You will also note that there is a long pause before the
display starts. I'm not sure what that is about, but it is in the
software. I'll have work on that when I find some time.
Just to be clear, this is only a frontend to the squeezeslave client.
It will put up a nice display and process keystrokes, but the audio
work is done by squeezeslave. I'd love to create my own client for
the squeezebox server, but I haven't had the time. If anyone wants to
tackle that, let me know. I did do some research on it, but just
haven't found the time to work on it.
I should caution everyone that this has been put together in a few
hours of disjointed work over a few days. It works for me on my
Fedora 16 x86_64 setup using Axel's atrpms. I make no guarantees
about anything else and I wouldn't try implementing this unless you
are used to compiling your own software.
Rudimentary instructions are in the README file on the github site.
Please let me know what you think and what errors you find -- I'm sure
there will be many.
George
