If you are running Fedora using the rpmfusion packages, the
latest version(s) have support for systemd delaying the startup
of the backend until the device(s) are ready.  There is also
some information in the MythTV wiki about the issue for systemd:

For systems that use upstart, some information about the

In both cases, you have to specify *your* device to wait for,
so some manual configuration(s) are needed.
