I took your advice and pulled the trigger on this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816215245

I picked that hot swap rack because

- the drives are horizontal (rather than vertical for the 5 into 3s,
regardless of what the pictures show.
- its a trayless setup
- people said its robust
- it has slots in it so it will slide into the 5.25" ledges in my case.

My plan is to mount the OS drive in the server case and have 4 other drives
in the chassis.

My case also has a top hot swap bay built in, so that will be my 6th SATA
channel.

If I'm not RAIDing, 5 operational drives should be enough.

If I like this thing, I might mount a second one in the case.

I also bought wheels for my server case.

With judicious use of routers, drives and drive controllers, I hope to run
Myth (with 2 HD PVRs serving 3 to 5 clients), NAS and Zoneminder all on the
same box.
