[mythtv-users] Mythvideo and wrong aspect ratio

Hi list,

I'm having problems with the aspect ratio of recordings in 16:9, which I
converted with mythnuv2mkv to mkv. In mythnuv2mkv I set the default
aspect ratio to 16:9 in case it fails to autodetect it.

When I watch such a recording in mythvideo, it gets streched
horizontally on my 4:3 monitor. Sometimes it even stretches the video
vertically and shrinks it horizontally. Mediainfo always reports an
aspect ratio of 16:9 for those files and VLC plays it correctly. I know
I can change the aspect ratio manually when watching, but I want a
solution which always works.

I don't have the problem with ripped DVDs in MKV (Handbrake) and
recordings I converted to xvid in an AVI container (mythnuv2mkv). In
these cases the video shows correctly with black bars at the top and bottom.

Where does mythvideo gets the information about the aspect ratio from?
It looks like it doesn't get it from the video dimensions. Is there some
kind of tag inside the file which is read by mythvideo? Maybe
mythnuv2mkv writes it wrongly into the file.

If yes, is there a way to correct it? I tried mmg and re-merged the
audio and video and specifically set the aspect ratio to 16:9, but it
doesn't change anything.

Or does the problem lie with MythTV?

Thanks for your help
Thomas
