I occasionally use a very old MacBook Pro (late 1996) as a frontend. It 
can handle 1080i and 720p with almost no stutter, using the default 
Quartz video driver. If you  have a newer machine, you should have no 
problem, unless perhaps if you are decompressing H.264 with slow hardware.
