I ran my backend in a KVM guest for a couple of years because I wanted
to make use of a MythTV-specific Linux distribution (MythBuntu) with
many things working out of the the box (automatic daily builds,
mythweb, etc), while keeping the main OS of my server at CentOS/RHEL.
