Ah -ha ! OK, so we're not going crazy here. :-)

Were you watching WNBC 4 out of NYC by any chance ? That would be it on the 
local affil as Jay says.

For posterity, my tuner is an HD homerun.  I was watching it transcoded, so 
I THINK I had the HD feed, however I'm listening through analog out on Myth 
to my TV, so downconverting the HD 5.1 audio to stereo could be the problem, 
even locally if not at WNBC itself.

Anyone have the email of someone technical at WNBC NY ?
