Well their business model is what it is, like it or not. But there
are two external forces you've neglected to consider ...
1) There is an argument that if they did produce a detailed
programming manual, and it included anything that could be
interpreted as "on this model, you need this workaround" then you can
be fairly certain that in the good old U Sue em All there'd be a
class action claiming compensation for having been sold faulty goods.
At the risk of starting another long "discussion"
2) You forget about Digital Restrictions Management, specifically
HDMI-HDCP. In effect, pretty well the whole internals of the system
have to be hidden before the card could possibly get approval by that
well known security R&D facility - the film industry. Providing the
level of information required to make good use of the hardware would
almost certainly result in mot being allowed to use HDCP, and that
would lock them out of their primary market which is Windows systems.
So yes, as predicted, HDCP limits your choice/use of video hardware
even if you have no need of it.
