Returning to this : I was in a hurry to get out earlier.

I've had a "Still tuning" failure and another failure for reasons that I
didn't chase up in the last few days, from cards that don't normally
show problems. So I poked about a bit on the ukfree site:

I don't know if this was the cause, but I rescanned and got slightly
different results from those after the 'final' retune a couple of months
ago. eg

The rescan was quick and troublefree. I deleted all dvb-t channels and
all but one transport. I left the BBC one, in my case on 794 MHz.
Scanned that transport for all services with the link to others enabled
- for some reason I had to do this twice - and the full set of five SD
transports was populated. 101 DVB channels and 1 MPEG channel, no
confusion. I get a good signal from Waltham, using a roof aerial. YMMV.
Then rescan for icons, exiting when it starts getting tedious about
alternatives.
