I disagree, the drives have always come in a plastic "case", with
bubble wrap around it. the box gets thrown around by the shipper so
the last thing you want is the drive to be stiffly held in the box,
the bubble wrap, or foam, acts as a shock buffer. The drives I bought
from Fry's were held in a hard plastic "case" that fit snuggly in the
shipping box, if the box got thrown or dropped there's nothing
preventing the drive from the impact shock.
