Another update, flashed from my laptop and now I'm seeing a newer version:
[97134.117577] hdpvr 1-1:1.0: untested firmware version 0x15, the
driver might not work
[97134.431786] hdpvr 1-1:1.0: device now attached to video0
[97134.431839] usbcore: registered new interface driver hdpvr

Seems that flashing from the VM didn't work, but claimed it was successful.
