In theory at least Advanced 1X should give more detail on telecine programmes, usually drama & movies. Temporal 2X (any 2x) should give better motion for sports, news, live shows and almost everything else that isn't from film.
The Advanced bit is partially to do with adapting between temporal and spatial modes automatically depending on the way the show was made and the type of picture content, very clever stuff, well worth the cost of the card imo.
If you watch almost exclusively movies and made on film dramas there is little if any difference between Advanced 1x & Advanced 2x, maybe this is why many people think that Advanced 1x is fine. If you watch HD sports and have a DLP or Plasma TV (some faster LCDs too) you really want Advanced 2X.
