Once I get my iMac back from in-warranty repair related to the internal 
HDD disappearing from OS view, I'll try it. In the process of 
troubleshooting this disk/cable/logic board issue, I reinstalled on an 
external disk and am running 10.6.3, which doesn't exhibit that symptom.
