I understand there is support for this sort of configuration coming soon, hopefully 0.25, some people are running this sort of configuration already but there are some remaining issues. Search this list for tunerless master backend and you will get some idea of the issues.

Of course you would need to be using some sort of network source for listing data, xmltv grabber, Schedules Direct etc. otherwise you would only get listings updated when the tuner slave backend was on and you might end up with the listings eit data keeping the tuner slave backend running all the time.
