Hi,

The number of recording drives is a product of the bandwidth you are
trying to record, the number of shows being recorded and the number of
"playbacks" being completed (including internal playback from
commflagging and transcoding).

To give you an idea, I have a 160GB OS drive using PATA, a 1.5TB
7200rpm drive for recordings and a eco 5400rpm 2tb drive for static
media (ripped dvds, music, images).

I have 6 tuners including 2 which are capable of 1080i H264 satellite
recordings and are predominantly used for this, and 4 freeview (SD)
tuners. Typically only one playback session is occurring and I have
limited number of simultaneous user jobs (such as commflagging) to 2
to prevent i/o saturation as running 4 jobs at times seemed to make
the system stutter (although no recording defects could be found,
playback was just little stuttery at times).

So I guess this is about the limit for a 7200rpm drive.

R
