[mythtv-users] Transcode in place to MPEG-2 (PS)?

Does anyone have a setup that they will share that will transcode
recorded TV in place to MPEG-2 Program stream.
I can do the transcode with ffmpeg, and have written a script to do
this, but I end up with the original recording as well as the transcoded
one. Making the script replace the original file, seems like a bad
idea, because MythTV is unaware of the changes to the file. I don't
want to muck around in the DB, without a tried-and-true means of doing
so. I found Raymond Wagner's Transcode wrapper stub, and I think this
is what I need, but I'm still a little unsure of how to implement it.
Also, I wonder if the built-in 'mythtranscode' will actually do what I
want, but I just don't know how.
In case anyone is wondering: I need this specific format, because it is
the only one that I have managed to stream to my 2 'DLNA' network
clients. (LG BD650 and Sony BDP-BX37) The LG recognizes much more
formats, but playback is unbearable. So far I have only gotten the Sony
to recognize SD video through MPEG-TS and MPEG-2 (Program Stream).
Thanks to anyone that may help (or even those that just criticize what I
think I want to do).
Jeremy
