Um. No. That's flat-out wrong. lirc_i2c is NOT in staging in the kernel.

Stuff actually in drivers/staging/lirc/:

lirc_sir

lirc_ttusbir
lirc_imon (neutered to only the ancient raw IR imon hw that almost nobody has)
lirc_serial
lirc_zilog

The lirc_i2c driver isn't there, and never will be, because its fully
redundant with ir-kbd-i2c. Similar reason for why lirc_atiusb isn't there.
