[mythtv-users] mythbuntu 11.04 lirc mceusb module - how?

my 10.10 mythbuntu install was playing silly buggers so i decided to back
everything up, wipe and start again on 11.04.
from what i've found, the 'mceusb' module is now supplied in the kernel and
not with the lirc package.
im sure theres good reasons for it, but it not very user friendly to a linux
beginner and no documentation on how to get it working.

has anyone been able to work out how to get mceusb working on the later
kernel/11.04, and if so, how did you do it?
