Thanks. I think it is tearing.

I'll check this out. The problem is happening on watching iPlayer in a
web browser so I'm not sure this will fix it.
I found some more info:

I have the xserver-xorg-video-intel package installed which AFAICT
should be the right one. I've no idea how to check if it is being used.
