Go into the channel editor in mythweb (Settings, TV, Channel Info).  Hit 
the checkbox on the channels you want to delete.  Hit 'Save' at the bottom.

Performing manual SQL changes is _not_ easy.  While the syntax itself 
for most tasks is not difficult, the fact that the MySQL server cannot 
provide any meaningful documentation on the schema means you are just 
blindly guessing at what things do based off their name, and subjecting 
yourself to a whole minefield of unintended consequences.  If your first 
instinct is to ask on the mailing list what SQL to use, don't.
