The master fix was part of a larger series of fixes and refactoring of
painting code which are not trivial to backport (and are not yet
complete). Hence I won't be backporting.
That said, from memory, the issue I was seeing certainly didn't need a
restart of mythfrontend. It should be enough to either exit playback
or force a repaint somehow (e.g. alt-tab away from the frontend and
back again). Anything else sounds like a different issue.
