Thanks Jim For your reply,

I looked at the VDPAU page on the wiki and didnt really see how to
modify the setting down to 1x deinterlacing, I think the profile that
is currently set on my frontend is VDPAU Normal.

I did find the error in the xorg.conf and I have corrected that, it
appears the last time a backup was made it inserted that goofy
character into the file and I reverted back to the backup file without
checking for typos.
