In my opinion it used to be way better - I think I began watching it
during the 16Mb/s days just before it dropped to @9Mb/s. It looked
stunning on my 9400GT > Panasonic 42PX80B @ 720p, as soon as the drop to
9Mb/s the picture was less sharp and more grainy.

CH4 HD can be viewed by DVB-S2 but requires decryption - won't discuss
this further on here as its forbidden. I do however have a valid
subscription card from Sky for this purpose.

I watch some downloaded TV shows encoded to 720p mkv files and the quality
of some of these appears better than broadcast from BBC. Most of these are
american shows recorded from american channels @ around 1.2GB for 45mins -
1hr.
