Welcome to the club.  My Revo 1600 with ION tears and so does my 8400 GS.

Yeah, I get that quite a bit on my 8400 GS.

And did it solve it?  No combination of settings I have tried has been
able to resolve this.

I have to admit having never fiddled with trying to get /dev/rtc sync
working.

I am most definitely using VDPAU on my 8400 GS (as well as the ION in
the Revo of course) frontend and I see that quite frequently still.  I
even see it playing local DVDs.

A udev rule would be the key here.

But do you find that having /dev/rtc really is the panacea?  I thought
simply having a working OpenGL would be enough.
