I'm running the same options, but I've figured out a slight workaround
for my issue.

I originally had "start LiveTV with Program Guide" enabled (or
whatever that exact setting is called).  Starting LiveTV would "hang"
the frontend on the first try, restarting the mythfrontend process and
then going to LiveTV would always work on that second try, but again
another try would yield the hang.  It always worked on that next try,
regardless of using QT, OpenGL, VDPAU or not.

If I turn off the option to go straight to the Program Guide when
starting Live TV, I can always start Live TV and even bring up the
Program Guide consistently each time I've tried.
